The aim of this 3rd Conference is to provide a forum for the world's leading scientific and technical communities to interact and address the main issues and the key challenges related to all aspects of resources and hazardous waste management in the beginning of the 21st century in order to improve industry's sustainability, reduce its environmental and health impacts in substantial and measurable terms, enhance resource recovery efficiency and reduce consumption of resources.

Tüm canlılar yaşamlarını doğal kaynak kullanımıyla idame ettirmektedir. Ancak, diğerlerinden farklı olarak insanoğlu, sanayi devrimi sonrasında gelişen kapitalizmin zorlamasının da etkisiyle, ihtiyaçlarının ötesinde tüketmektedir. Nüfus artışıyla birlikte gelen aşırı kullanım,doğa üzerindeki baskıyı arttırmaktadır. Bu çerçevede gelişen çevresel duyarlılık ise, başta madencilik olmak üzere birçok sektördeki üretim kalıplarını değişime zorlamaktadır.

Madencilik toplumsal yaşamın olmazsa olmaz faaliyetlerinden biridir. Fakat, madenler üretilirken, ülke yararı ve çevreyle uyum bir arada yürütülmek durumundadır. Bu anlayış çerçevesinde, madencilikten kaynaklanan çevresel etkiler ve yönetimi konusunda ilgili tarafların karşı karşıya kaldıkları sorunların tespiti ve çözümlerine yönelik katkı amacıyla, gelenekselleşmesi hususunda önemli adımlar atılan Madencilik ve Çevre Sempozyumlarının üçüncüsü düzenlenmektedir.

2007 yılında Belgrat‘ta yapılan 2. Balkan Madencilik Kongresi sırasında yapılan Koordinasyon Kurulu Toplantısı‘nda 3. Kongre‘nin Türkiye‘de yapılmasına karar verilmiştir.

TMMOB Maden Mühendisleri Odası, 3. Balkan Madencilik Kongresi‘ni, 1-3 Ekim 2009 tarihlerinde İzmir‘de, 3. Türkiye Madencilik Fuarı ile birlikte düzenlemekten onur duyacaktır.

Söz konusu Balkan Kongreleri serisi 2005 yılında başlamış ve Balkan ülkelerinden olduğu kadar dünyanın çeşitli ülkelerinden profesyonellerin, araştırmacıların, bilim insanlarının ve üreticilerin bir araya gelerek bilgi paylaşımında bulundukları geniş bir forum haline gelmiştir.

Kongrenin ana amacı; madencilik teknolojisi, enerji ve sürdürülebilir kalkınmaya ilişkin işlevsel, ekonomik ve bilimsel bilgiye katkıda bulunmaktır.

3. Balkan Madencilik kongresi, 1-3 Ekim 2009 tarihlerinde İzmir‘de Kültür Park Fuar Alanı‘nda gerçekleştirilecektir.

General Information

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory [EMBL] was established in 1974 and is supported by 20 member states and one associate member. EMBL consists of five facilities: the main Laboratory in Heidelberg [Germany] and Outstations in Hamburg [Germany], Grenoble [France], Hinxton [UK] and Monterotondo [Italy].

EMBL is one of the top research institutions in the world; it is the flagship of European molecular biology, ranking as the highest non-US institute in research performance in a study by ISI Science Indicator for 1992-2002. More than 1400 people from 60 nations currently work at EMBL; the more than 3000 alumni form a network of connections throughout Europe and the world. EMBL is a world-renowned international centre for advanced training and has had the right to award its own PhD degrees since 1997.

The cornerstones of EMBL's mission are: to conduct basic research in molecular biology, to provide essential services to scientists in its Member States, to provide high-level training to its staff, students, and visitors, to develop new instrumentation for biological research, and technology transfer. These core functions are combined with significant outreach activities in the areas of Science and Society and training for science teachers.

Over its 30-year history, the Laboratory has had a deep impact on European science in all of these areas. EMBL has achieved so much because it is a truly international, European institution, because it has achieved a critical mass of services and facilities which are driven by cutting-edge biological research, and because it regards education – at all levels – as a way of life.
